I am not a nazi, for the record, but boy am I a sucker for their architecture. Massive blunt hunks of blunt massiveness.
I’m not sure, but I have a feeling this has to do with the fact that all construction is inherently an exercise of authority. Building walls that cannot be broken down easily. Making a door here but not there. A road from here to there but not there. A freedom here and a restriction there.
Modernism, with its glass walls, open plans, and centrifugal composition, is but a camouflage, a potemkin stage set concealing the operative system, rigid, oppressive and authoritarian as ever.
Love the German traffic sign typography, too!
